The main feature of ductile iron is that the carbon in its metallographic structure is nodularized into a ball shape, and its brand indicates the mechanical strength. Due to the different casting processes and formulas of various ductile iron pipe manufacturers, there will be great differences in chemical components. For users, the important thing is the mechanical characteristics. Therefore, there is no strict chemical composition for ductile iron castings in the national standard, but only the mechanical properties. Neither does American Standard.

The standards of the two countries are very different, especially for ductile iron pipe fittings.
4. Impact test
American Standard AWWA C151 / a21.51-2009 requires Charpy impact test according to ASTM E23. For impact test at 21 ± 6 ℃, the minimum qualified value of notch impact test piece is 9.49j.
While impact test is not required in GB / T 13295-2008. In order to meet the requirements of American Standard, through the impact test data, it is considered that the domestic nodular cast iron pipe and ductile iron pipe fittings have met the requirements of AWWA C151 experimental standard.

The national standard GB / T 13295-2008 does not require the covering thickness, and the American Standard AWWA C151 / a21.51-2009 specifies the covering thickness.
Through the analysis of Chinese and American standards, it is considered that the cast iron pipes and fittings produced according to the domestic GB / T 13295-2008 standard can meet the performance requirements of AWWA C151 / a21.51-2009 duplex iron pipe, centrifugally cast ductile iron pipe and AWWA C153 / a21.53-2006 duplex iron compact fittings for water service ductile iron fittings.
