Ductile iron pipe is pipe made of ductile cast iron commonly used for water supply and gas transmission in municipal industrial and mining enterprises. This type of pipe is a direct development of earlier cast iron pipe, which it has superseded. The ductile iron used to manufacture the pipe is characterized by the spheroidal or nodular nature of the graphite within the iron. Typically, the pipe is manufactured using centrifugal casting in metal or resin lined moulds. Protective internal linings and external coatings are often applied to ductile iron pipes to inhibit corrosion: the standard internal lining is cement mortar and standard external coatings include bonded zinc, asphalt or water-based paint. In highly corrosive environments loose polyethylene sleeving (LPS) to encase the pipe may also be used. Life expectancy of unprotected ductile iron pipes depends on the corrosiveness of soil present and tends to be shorter where soil is highly corrosive. However, a lifespan in excess of 100 years has been estimated for ductile iron pipelines installed using "evolved laying practices", including use of properly installed LPS (polyethylene encasement).

1. The construction is simple and fast. Simple tools can be used for fast and safe assembly work.

2. It has flexibility. The rubber ring has elasticity, so that the ductile iron pipe socket has flexibility. The pipe can well adapt to a little settlement or vibration of the foundation.

3. Good scalability. It can well absorb the pipe expansion and contraction caused by temperature changes, and no expansion joint is needed.

4. The influence of electrochemical corrosion is small. The rubber ring of the interface insulates each ductile iron pipe from each other, which can reduce the influence of electrochemical corrosion.

5. The rubber ring is not easy to age. The rubber ring is almost completely embedded in the inner groove of the socket, and there are fewer parts in contact with oxygen^ to reduce the degree of aging.

6. Good sealing performance. After the sealing part of the rubber ring is squeezed, it can be tightly joined with the inner surface of the socket of the ductile iron pipe and the outer surface of the socket, so as to obtain sufficient air tightness and water tightness.
