Smart Water Solutions Empower Dujiangyan's Ecological Water Management

In the control room of the Pu Yang Wastewater Treatment Plant in Dujiangyan, Sichuan Province, a large electronic screen gives operators a comprehensive view of the key areas and operations of the facility. "Water treatment plants have changed dramatically. With the implementation of smart operation management, fewer staff are required, and the efficiency has significantly improved," explained Wang Xiaobo, General Manager of Dujiangyan Tiejian Ecological Environment Management Co., Ltd.

The water industry is critical for supporting healthy urbanization and directly impacts the quality of life for citizens. According to the "Urban Water Services Development Plan for 2035," by 2035, a modern, safe, efficient, green, economical, and smart urban water system will be in place. The sector is currently transitioning from traditional, extensive growth to high-quality, innovation-driven development. Emerging technologies are enabling the water industry’s digital transformation, offering a path to overcoming limitations and achieving sustainable progress.

As a UNESCO World Heritage irrigation project, Dujiangyan provides not only agricultural irrigation and water supply services but also flood control, power generation, and environmental protection. In recent years, Sichuan Province has introduced a series of policy documents to guide the construction of smart water supply and drainage projects, aiming to improve efficiency and service quality. The Dujiangyan Water Supply and Drainage System Enhancement Project will invest 76 million RMB to build an intelligent monitoring platform to elevate operational management.

This project will enable real-time monitoring of the city's water system, providing predictive alerts and supporting informed decision-making. It also aims to enhance public service by enabling the rapid sharing of water management data. Using GIS and digital twin technologies, the project will create a 3D visual representation of water treatment processes, integrating automation systems to improve precision and efficiency.

Across the nation, smart water management systems are gaining traction. China Tiejian Investment Construction Group has pioneered the development of smart platforms for water supply and wastewater management, covering urban and rural water supply, municipal wastewater treatment, industrial wastewater treatment, and more. These platforms significantly enhance project management and set benchmarks for the industry's future development.
